How to Find Articles

How do you search a database?

All databases are based on the same principles, so learning to use one database will teach you skills that you can apply to others.

A good database to start with is Academic Search Premier. Academic Search Premier lists articles (many in full-text!) from numerous sources on a wide variety of topics. Because it is a general database, it includes articles that are written at a level appropriate for beginning college students.

View an example of a journal article search in a database by clicking below. While the example database search (provided by the Libraries of NCSU) shows a journal article search in Academic Search Elite, the search skills taught in the example are transferable and can be used while working within Academic Search Premier.

Working with Academic Search Premier

Now that you have viewed an example database search, try working within Academic Search Premier to locate an article or articles related to your specific research question. If you need additional help in working within Academic Search Premier, or any other database, be sure to Ask a Librarian.

Click below to access Academic Search Premier. Remember, all article databases made available through Hutchins Library can be accessed through the Library Home Page by clicking on ELECTRONIC RESOURCES.
