Developing a Research Strategy


Brainstorm Search Terms

Once you've decided upon a topic and developed a good research question, you may be tempted to immediately begin searching resources for information. However, taking a little time to select good search terms will save you much time and effort.

To select good search terms break down your research question.

For example, pretend you will be using the following research question: "How does having a job affect a college student's grades?

This research question can be broken down into at least three smaller concepts:

    concept 1: college students

    concept 2: jobs

    concept 3: grades
