Developing a Research Strategy

Define Your Topic and Pose a Research Question - The Topic

A Word of Caution

Two types of topics can be challenging: current events and local topics.

Current topics can be difficult to research because they are too current to have scholarly publications written about them. Coverage of current events found on the web or in news articles may be brief and superficial. If you choose a current events topic, try to select one that has been in the news for a few years.

Local topics are can also be difficult to research as you may find yourself dependent on campus and community newspapers for sources. If you choose a local topic, try to select one that may have been discussed in other areas or on a national level (cineration)
