Defining Research Needs

Differences Between Resource Types

Books are important resources for research assignments.

Pro: Information in books has been checked by editors and books found in the Hutchins Library have been selected by librarians and professors. As a result, library books, especially reference books, are good choices for reliable information and basic overviews of diverse subjects and issues.

Con: Because it takes years to write and publish books, they are not always the best sources for current topics. Additionally, reference books may not provide knowledge at a detailed or deep level.

Do you think books will be useful resources for your assignment? Why or why not?
