Defining Research Needs

Differences Between Resource Types

The variety of information available today, and the numerous ways in which it is published, can make choosing the right resources for your research a challenge.

A variety of options are available, including: books, scholarly journals, popular magazines, and websites.

In addition to the above listed options, Hutchins Library also makes available a number of Special Collections (including unpublished sources such as manuscripts, letters, and diaries) and Media Collections (including audiovisual and multimedia sources such as sound and video recordings and visual images).

While BOOST focuses primarily on the selection, evaluation and use of books, scholarly journals, magazines and websites, you can always ask a librarian if you are interested in additional resources. Your instrutor may also know of additional resources that can be helpful in your research of certain topics.
