Evaluating Resources

Evaluate Articles

During the research process, you will most likely encounter articles that come from two different sources: popular magazines and scholarly journals. While popular magazine articles are sometimes acceptable sources for research assignments, many instructors expect you to use scholarly journal articles. Being familiar with the differences between scholarly journal articles and popular magazine articles will help you evaluate articles for your assignments.

In choosing between using articles from popular magazines or scholarly journals, consider their differences in terms of:

  • article organization,
  • authorship,
  • content,
  • intende audience, and
  • research sources.
